We are constantly looking for possibilities to translate circular economy to specific goals. Since 2015 we are trying to use coffee waste for soil improvement. “With our project we are not going to save the world, though we will make the first steps into the right direction” according to Ignas Janssens Sustainability Officer at Pelican Rouge Coffee Roasters. The idea from Mellany Klompe of Klompe Landbouw is to use coffee waste on her fields. This sustainable initiative would improve the soil of the fields and restores the soil’s natural vitality. Due to hindering rules and regulations we were not able to start this, we are not allowed to use a waste flow as a soil improver.
Have a look at the video of Ignas and Mellany:
With this video we try to influence the politics as enforcing authority and as partner to realise this project. Action is needed! Throwing away resources and food is not the way forward.
